State governments should partner in 'Clean India' campaign: West Bengal Governor
He said soon the cleanliness drive will become a huge movement and people will join it as a part of their duties.

Kanpur: West Bengal Governor Kesari Nath said state governments in the country should come forward and partner in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachh Bharat mission but cautioned people against using the drive merely as a photo-opportunity.

"When every person is participating in the drive then why would any individual or state government have a problem with associated with the campaign," Tripathi told reporters.

Tripathi claimed states will soon come around to the idea of being a part of the campaign.

"While there are some states which are openly participating in the cleanliness drive but there are other states which are in a dilemma regarding their stand and the states should keep in mind that the Swacch campaign is not for them but for the masses.

He also said some people are using the cleanliness drive for clicking pictures which sends out a wrong message.

"Some people think that their work is over after getting a picture clicked for the cleanliness drive which is wrong," he said.

Tripathi said the movement initiated by Modi is slowly gaining ground as a mass movement and people are themselves joining the drive. It is not the campaign of a particular government and but is every citizen's campaign.

He said soon the cleanliness drive will become a huge movement and people will join it as a part of their duties.

Tripathi also stressed on the importance of celebrities participating in the cleanliness campaign and said more celebrities should participate in the drive.

"When a celebrity or renowned personality joins the movement, it increases its popularity and many more people join the movement," he said.
