BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has sought clearance from the State Election Commission for posting of 17 village level workers (VLWs) on their promotion to the post of gram panchayat extension of f i c e r (GPEO) and panchayat assistant (PA).The Government has to seek the approval of the State Election Commission as one of the VLWs who was promoted is presently working in Nabarangpur district.Election code of conduct is in force in Nabarangpur district due to the impending byelection to Umerkote Assembly constituency.Meanwh i l e , t h e Panchayati Raj Department has directed Collectors of 27 districts, including the pollbound Nabarangpur, to promote surplus gram panchayat secretaries of their districts to the post of village level worker.On promotion of the panchayat secretaries, they will be adjusted against the vacant VLW posts in other districts if vacancy is not available in their home district.Ganjam district has a maximum number of 50 surplus GP secretaries.Nabarangpur has three surplus Scheduled Tribe GP secretaries who will be adjusted in Kalahandi district.
