KOLLAM: A number of zero emission vehicles had been appearing in the market, but the tag of zero external energy fuel or electricity assistance is what makes the ‘Zero Emission E-G car’ different.Conceptualised and designed by a group of students of Younus College of Engineering, Pallimukku, near here, the car is claimed to generate energy by itself by pedalling the lever attached to it for a few hours.Presenting the prototype of the vehicle before the media here on Tuesday, the students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the college said that power generation through human effort has great significance at a time when people are ready to spend hours in fitness centres.“The car is operated by a 360 Watt brushless DC hub motor and a relay system is connected for its forward and backward motion. Four 12V batteries are being connected serially to produce 20 AH power, which drives the motor,” the students said. The speed of the car which weighs approximately 100 kg is optimised below 40 km per hour for greater efficiency and balance. Two persons can travel in the car.“At present, the car is in its elementary stage of functioning but by increasing the power of the motor and attaching spring load assistance, it can give top-end cars a run for their money,” the students said. The team, comprising Areyesh Somarajan, Muhammed Rashid, Ramthish T, Sabik K, Saleem K P, Sanofar Khan and Thanveer A R, are in the process of getting a patent for their design. They had spent around `40,000 to make the prototype. The team was guided by lecturers of the college Harikrishnan and Arun S Lal.
