BANGALORE: The Bangalore district Kannada Sahithya Parishat on Tuesday announced that the Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Award will be given away on June 13. The aim of giving this award is to throw light on the various works and endeavours of social upliftment made by the late Maharaja of Mysore, Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, so that the youth of today is encouraged to follow his footsteps.This year the award is being presented to Indiramma Krishnappa, who is striving for the upliftment of dalits and women. She has been playing an active role in the eradication of the dowry system and oppression of women. She has also been contributing to the fields of art, literature and social service. Indiramma will be felicitated with the award on June 13 at Kannada Sahithya Parishat Grounds at 5 pm. Member of Legislative Council MV Rajashekaran will present the award to her. Also present on the occasion will be dignitaries like Jayaramaraje Urs and Sangamesha, secretary of Kannada Sahithya Parishat.
