Weather Balloon Probe Mistaken For UFO Causes Panic In Bengal's Paschim Medinipur
Word spread that an extraterrestrial piece of gadget had someone crash-landed on Earth.

What would be your reaction if you discovered an identified object in your locality, having fallen from the skies above? There will be a scent of both excitement and apprehension in the air and this is exactly what happened yesterday in West Bengal’s Paschim Medinipur district. A lazy Sunday afternoon took a chaotic turn in Paschim Medinipur’s Chandrakona area after an object was found lying on the ground, with a faint light being emitted from it. The object appeared to be glowing and they found a rope and device lying on the ground while a balloon was attached to it. The blinking object lay just a few feet from the balloon apparatus.

Unable to identify the object, people in the area began to panic. Word spread that an extraterrestrial piece of gadget had someone crash-landed on Earth. As panic gripped the region, the Chandrakona police had to be summoned to the spot. The police came and restored some peace to the region and took the blinking equipment for study.

According to administration sources, the device in question turns out to be a radio probe, a sophisticated instrument designed for atmospheric data collection. This battery-powered telemetry device can rotate through the atmosphere using balloons as its mode of transport. Its functionality is not limited to a single type of measurement; instead, it gathers various atmospheric data. It transmits critical information such as humidity, altitude, atmospheric pressure, wind direction and geographic location to a ground receiver, ensuring comprehensive monitoring and analysis of weather conditions. They have a crucial role in advanced meteorological studies and weather forecasting. The radio probe was launched from a dedicated weather station.

How it got to the surface is still being investigated by authorities. Nor is it known from which weather station it was launched.

What's your reaction?
