BHUBANESWAR: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is scheduled to visit Orissa in the first week of January to inaugurate the 99th Indian National Science Congress (INSC). Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik on Monday reviewed the preparations for the event at a meeting here. The Prime Minister will also attend the closing ceremony of the INSC on January 7 where he will accept the presidentship of the Congress for its centenary celebrations next year. About 15,000 delegates including 1,500 from abroad are scheduled to attend the mega event to be jointly organised by National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), the Government of Orissa and KIIT University. The delegates would also include 20 Nobel Laureates. Being held in Orissa after 34 years, the Congress would be attended by distinguished scientists, cabinet ministers, heads of scientific bodies, top officials and captains of industry. A new feature of the session would be Children’s Science Congress and Women’s Science Congress. More than 10,000 children are expected to participate in Children’s Science Congress.
