Months after Priyanka Chopra pulled out of the New York City restaurant Sona, the establishment announced that it will soon permanently close its doors after a final brunch service on June 30. Sona was inaugurated three years ago with an Indian puja ceremony and was frequented by several celebrities seeking Indian food in New York.
The restaurant shared the news of its closing on Instagram in a statement which read, “After More than three remarkable years, Sona will be closing. We have immense gratitude for everyone who walked through our doors. It’s been our greatest honor to serve you,” read an excerpt from a statement posted on the restaurant’s official Instagram account. It further read, “SONA’s final service will be brunch on Sunday, June 30.”

Sona was founded by Priyanka Chopra and Maneesh Goyal in 2021. However, the actress reportedly ended her partnership with the establishment sometime in late 2023. Priyanka’s representatives had then issued a statement.
“Bringing Sona to life will invariably be a proud and significant moment in her career. Priyanka has always endeavoured to bring Indian culture to the fore through storytelling, whether that’s via engaging content for film and TV, or a beautifully plated dish that embodies the haute cuisine of India,” the statement read.
“We are grateful for her partnership and support. While she will no longer be involved as a creative partner, she remains part of the Sona family, and we look forward to our respective new chapters ahead,” Maneesh told People magazine and added that working with Priyanka “has been a dream come true”.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Priyanka has been filming for The Bluff in Australia for a few days now. She is working alongside Karl Urban in ‘The Bluff’. The film will be streaming on Prime Video. The Bluff is being directed by Frank E. Flowers. He rose to fame after co-writing the hit film Bob Marley: One Love, which grossed over $120 million worldwide.
The Bluff is set in the 19th-century Caribbean and follows the story of a former female pirate. Priyanka would be essaying the role of the pirate. In the film, the character then embarks on a journey to protect her family when the mysterious sins of her past catch up to her. The makers are planning to begin the film’s shoot in Australia. The film will be produced by AGBO’s Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, and Michael Disco; Cinestar Pictures’ Cisely Saldana; and Mariel Saldana.
