SM Entertainment Warns Against Malicious Attacks, Promises Legal Action
In a recent statement, SM Entertainment has issued a strict warning against malicious actions targeting their artists.

In a move to safeguard the rights of their agency artists, SM Entertainment came up with a new initiative in 2023. The introduction of the Kwangya 119 website allows fans to report concerns related to SM artists, covering issues such as defamation and copyright infringement. This strategic measure aligns with the agency’s commitment to enhancing the protection of several K-Pop idols. Since the website’s launch, the agency has actively addressed various cases and showcased their dedication to maintaining a safe environment for their talents. In a recent statement, the South Korean company issued a strict warning against malicious actions targeting their artists. The agency joined hands with a law firm, who will be responsible for seeing after both civil and criminal legal actions to respond to any threats to their artists’ rights.

The agency stated, “Hello, this is SM Entertainment. We would like to make a formal request regarding activities infringing on the rights of our label artists. Utilizing the valuable reports submitted by fans via ‘KWANGYA 119′ as well as the company’s monitoring system, SM Entertainment will pursue strong legal action against any and all instances of criminal acts including malicious slander, invasion of privacy, sexual harassment, fabrication and spread of false rumours and more committed against our artists in partnership with Shin & Kim LLC.”

“In order to protect our artists from such acts, SM Entertainment will not hesitate to file both civil and criminal lawsuits against perpetrators with no leniency, so please take caution so that you do not become affiliated with disgraceful acts. We would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank fans who dedicate their precious time to report cases to the company and we promise to continue our best efforts in protecting the rights of our label artists. Thank you,” SM Entertainment concluded.

Meanwhile, SM Entertainment has an impressive list of artists under them, including renowned names like BoA, TVXQ, Super Junior, Girls’ Generation, SHINee, EXO, Red Velvet, NCT, WayV, aespa, RIIZE, BAEKHYUN, CHANYEOL, TEN, WayV and many more.

According to previous reports, Kwangya 119 normally receives an average of 400 legal cases each month. The legal team thoroughly goes through various factors before deciding to assign a lawyer to handle a case. It’s important to note that not all 400 cases get immediate legal action. Only after a careful cross checking process, the cases that meet the criteria reach SM Entertainment’s legal unit for a complete review. The complaints that successfully pass this filtration process are then handed over to the police for further action. In some instances, the company needs to encourage investigators to take up a particular case.
