Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has a celebrated list of films, each with its fan following. The director recently sat down for an exclusive chat about his latest project Bloody Ishq, which he has written. While he talked about human emotions, he also shared his experience about his life after becoming a grandfather. He admitted to the changes but also revealed the first film he wants to show his granddaughter Raha Kapoor.
With a broad smile, Mahesh Bhatt replied, “If you were to ask me, I would wish Raha to watch the film Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin when she grows up to be a young girl and may be as young as 16.”
The 1991 film, starring Mahesh Bhatt’s eldest daughter Pooja Bhatt and Aamir Khan, remains popular among cinephiles.
“It’s one of the most heartwarming films where Pooja was out of this world and Aamir was really good. It’s a film that has the resonance of a human heart. I think a film like this would be the right one I would choose for her,” Bhatt added.
When we reminded him that he also has Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke, a film that many millennials have grown up with, he said, “Oh yes, there is that too. But that’s a very different kind of love story.”
Mahesh Bhatt also spoke about how the arrival of Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor’s daughter Raha in 2022 has changed his life. He shared that he has started seeing the world from a different perspective and noticing things that he would have otherwise missed. The Zakhm director also added that his perspective as a filmmaker shifted when he became a father and then a grandfather.
“I look at human stories differently, especially after becoming a grandfather. Honestly, I still can’t recover from being amazed by my child and his amazing achievements. And here is another new dimension of motherhood. Alia is not only an amazing actress but also a great mother. It was an alchemical change and Raha is like a godsend that came out of nowhere and left us all in awe. If I can be completely honest, my gaze has shifted to the grandchild. You start idolizing her a little more than your daughter. I think children have this kind of power to completely captivate you,” Bhatt said emotionally.
Written by Mahesh Bhatt and directed by Vikram Bhatt, Bloody Ishq will air on Disney+ Hotstar.
