In a touching incident, a family in Khordha district paid tribute to their pet dog Golupapa and performed all rites as per Hindu customs. The family performed the funeral of their pet dog with proper Hindu costumes. The owner of the dog has been identified as Basanti Mohapatra and the dog as Golupapa.
The dog stayed with Basanti’s family for 13 years. Golpapa died due to old age on October 5. After the demise of the Golupapa, the family was heartbroken. As the dog was considered to be more than a family member, Basanti along with his family, observed 7-day death rituals as per Hindu customs to pray for the well being of the soul.
People praise Basanti’s family for setting an example for others in the form of true affection. Basanti’s family is fond of animals. They also shelter other animals and take proper care of them.
Animal lover Basanti Mohapatra said, “Gulupapa was our family member. It is very shocking for us. We are performing last rituals for Gulupapa. We will erect a statue of Gulupapa. We want to give a message love the animal”
“Basanti’s family is fond of animals and has set an example for others for their animal love” said local resident Kumudini Balabantaray.
Meanwhile, earlier, in Paralakhemundi town of Odisha’s Gajapati district a grand funeral procession was carried out for a pet dog that died after being with the family for around 16 years. The funeral procession was taken out by Tunu Gouda, the owner of the pet dog Anjali.
Gouda said he met the dog 16 years back. Though he adopted many dogs in course of time, he believes Anjali brought good fortune to him.
The pet dog was then taken to a well-decorated vehicle with the beating of drums and DJ music. Later, a funeral procession with the sounds of traditional musical instruments, DJs, and fireworks was taken out in the city. Many people from the locality also joined the procession.
