Four people were killed and 16 suffered injuries due to multiple gas explosions in Jodhpur’s Kirti Nagar area. Several vehicles including two motorcycles and a vehicle to transport the cylinders were burnt after six gas cylinders exploded simultaneously, reports said. The house caught fire and a part of it collapsed after the explosion, triggering panic in the area.
ACP (Mandore) Rajendra Prasad Diwakar said over half a dozen LPG cylinders suddenly went off in a house at Kirti Nagar area about 2.00 pm on Saturday. “The cylinders were stored in the house of one Bhomaram Lohar, a supplier,” Diwakar said, adding that the cause of the explosion was yet to be ascertained.
“Three children and an old man suffered severe burn injuries and died on the spot. Sixteen others were rushed to the hospital. The condition of some of them is critical,” Diwakar added.
The administration reached the spot shortly after the incident and the injured were taken to the hospital for treatment.
District Collector Himanshu Gupta has ordered a probe into the matter and assured that anyone found responsible would be prosecuted as per law.
The incident came days after four members of a family were killed and two sustained injuries following an LPG cylinder blast at their house in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
According to Meerut Inspector General of Police Praveen Kumar, leakage in the cylinder pipe led to the blast, when food was being prepared at the house in Babloo Garden Colony in Loni. The impact was such that walls and linter of the house turned into debris, burying the six people in them, officials said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the deaths and directed officials to ensure adequate treatment of those injured.
