Gogoi shielding MLAs who attacked forest officials: AGP
Jiten Gogoi and Kushal Deuri attacked two forest officers on March 17.

Guwahati: The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Monday accused Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi of delaying the arrest of two independent MLAs, who had assaulted forest officials in the Kaziranga National Park, till the Lok Sabha election.

"The two MLA's help will be sought by the Congress to ensure the victory of Deep Gogoi for the Koliabor seat who is the younger brother of former Union minister BK Handique from the Jorhat constituency," AGP President Chandra Mohan Patowary said in Guwahati.

Jiten Gogoi and Kushal Deuri, surrendered United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA)-turned independent MLAs, assaulted the Kaziranga Chief Range Officer Dharanidhar Boro and another forester, on March 17 after they were told not to fish which was not permitted at the world heritage site.

"Let the Chief Minister be honest enough to admit that he is not in favour of their arrest because of their help to party candidates," said Patowary.
