New Delhi: With just two days left for filing of nomination papers for the first phase of Lok Sabha polls, 262 candidates, including Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and former UN Under-Secretary General Shashi Tharoor entered the fray on Saturday.
BJD supremo and Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also filed papers from his traditional Hinjili constituency in Ganjam district for the April 16 assembly elections to be held simultaneously with the general elections.
While RJD president Lalu Prasad filed papers from Saran Lok Sabha seat in Bihar, Tharoor entered the fray from Thiruvanathapuram segment in Kerala. Former MP Lal Babu Rai also filed his papers as an Independent from Saran.
Forty seven candidates filed papers on the sixth day of nomination in Bihar today, taking the total number of nominees to 152. While Umashanker Singh filed papers from Maharajganj as an RJD candidate, his jailed son, Jitendra Swami will be Independent for the same seat.
Five candidates entered the contest from Arunachal Pradesh. Three candidates, including sitting BJP MP Kiren Rijiju and Takam Sanjay, a former minister and Congress leader have filed papers for Arunachal West seat.
Nining Ering, a minister in the Nehru cabinet, also filed papers as a Congress nominee for the Arunachal East seat.
