New Delhi: The Left parties in Maharashtra, including the CPI and the CPM, will hold protests against the Reliance-promoted SEZ of Navi Mumbai on Friday.

As part of their protests, the parties will block roads in Raigad district and then hold a demonstration at the secretariat on the April 5.

As per RBI reports, the country is going to loose Rs 1.75 lakh crore due to the concessions offered to the SEZs in the face of various tax rebates.

The Left is against the alleged acquisition of agricultural land for Special Economic Zones as they fear it could spark off a Nandigram-like situation in the state.

The say if government wants the state to develop, it should allot the barren and waste land to the SEZs.

The Left parties also point out that until recently, no farmer was allowed to build a house on agriculture land. And the fact that the government is now allowing corporates to come on the lands is unfair.

What's your reaction?
