Lucknow: Notification for the second phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly election would be issued on Monday with which the nomination process would also start.
The second phase would test the fate of many senior leaders, including speaker Sukhdeo Rajbhar, revenue minister Phagu Chauhan, state presidents of BSP and BJP, deputy leader of SP Ambika Chaudhary, 31 MLAs and 24 former ministers.
Polling for the second phase of polls covering 59 seats in Sant Kabir Nagar, Maharajganj, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia and Ghazipur would be held on February 11.
"More than 1.92 voters are expected to cast their votes at 20020 polling booths at 12995 polling stations," election commission sources said.
Vidhan Sabha speaker Rajbhar would be contesting from newly created Deedarganj seat in Azamgarh district, whereas deputy leader of SP in assembly Ambika Chaudhary would be seeking rerun from Phephna in Ballia.
While BSP state president and cabinet minister Swami Prasad Maurya would be contesting from Padrauna seat in Kushinagar, BJP state president Surya Pratap Shahi has been named party candidate for newly created Pathardeva seat in Deoria district.
Former BJP state president Ramapati Ram Tripathi would contest from Siswan seat in Maharajganj district, whereas Revenue Minister Phagu Chauhan would contest from Ghosi seat in Mau district.
Former forest minister Fateh Bahadur Singh, who was sacked by chief minister Mayawati, has announced to contest from Kampiarganj as an independent candidate.
Naresh Yadav, son of MP Governor Ram Naresh Yadav, would be pitched against BJP candidate as Congress nominee for Phoolpur seat in Azamgarh district.
Six time MLA Harishanker Tiwari would test his fate from Chillupar seat in Gorakhpur on Loktantrik Congress ticket.
Aman Tripathi, son of SP MLA Amarmani Tripathi, facing jail term in poetess Madhumita murder, is in fray for Nautanwa seat in Maharajganj district.
