Kolkata: In a huge embarrassment for the Trinamool Congress (TMC), its councillor Mohammed Iqbal alias Munna, one of the accused in the sub-inspector murder case in violence in Garden Reach area in February 2013, claimed that he was advised by some key party leaders to go into hiding.
The unarmed sub-inspector Tapas Choudhury was shot dead during a clash between Congress and Trinamool supporters at Hari Mohan Ghosh College in Garden Reach area on February 2012. The incident happened in the run-up to the college elections.
Munna, who was arrested on Thursday night at Dehgir on Sone in Bihar, has been brought to Kolkata by a CID team on transit remand. Munna confessed to the CID team before boarding the train from Gaya. He will be produced in court later on Saturday.
The Kolkata Police's detective department had arrested 12 people along with Sheikh Subhaan who had allegedly fired at Choudhury. After West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan's strong criticism of the violence and attack by opposition parties, the case was handed to the CID which has already arrested Congress leader Moktar few days back.
