Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Jammu on September 14 as part of his campaign efforts ahead of the upcoming 2024 Assembly Elections in Jammu and Kashmir. His visit is expected to attract a large turnout, with the Prime Minister addressing several key issues concerning the region.
The visit comes at a critical time as the BJP ramps up its efforts to secure a strong foothold in the region for the upcoming elections.
The Prime Minister’s visit will be the third high-profile visit after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah to the region of Jammu and Kashmir ahead of Assembly polls.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is visiting Jammu on Sunday to address election rallies in Ramban and Banihal constituencies. Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah was in the union territory on Friday and Saturday during which he released the BJP’s manifesto for the elections.
BJP Released Manifesto
Amit Shah on Friday during his two-day visit to the UT released BJP’s manifesto and made 25 promises to the people of the region. Among the 25 promises made by the party, the first included ‘wiping out terrorism and separatism in the state’, followed by prioritising and enhancing women’s financial security and self-reliance.
The saffron party promises to promote and develop the economy in Jammu-Kashmir and support existing businesses and small traders. Among several other promises, the BJP has assured to triple the old age, widow and disability pensions from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000, guaranteeing a life of dignity for the vulnerable groups. They have also ensured affordable healthcare for all by increasing the coverage of Ayushman Bharat Sehat Scheme by an additional Rs 2 lakhs from Rs 5 lakhs.
Ahead of releasing the party’s “Sankalp Patra”, Shah said, “Article 370 is part of history and will never come back. The people of the country and the state respect the abrogation of Article 370.”
J&K Polls in 3 Phases
The Assembly polls will be held in three phases on September 18, 25 and October 1. This is the first election in the erstwhile state after its special status under Article 370 of the Constitution was revoked and it was bifurcated into two Union territories.
