Kolkata: The Singur controversy is only getting murkier by the day. The Trinamool Congress on Tuesday gave Tata group chief Ratan Tata a seven-day ultimatum to withdraw his comment that his "competitors" had been fuelling protests against a proposed small car plant in Singur.
"We have given seven days to Mr Ratan Tata to withdraw his comment that his competitors had been fuelling the agitation at Singur," PTI quoted leader of opposition Partha Chatterjee as saying.
Chatterjee added that if Ratan Tata failed to do so, then the party "will explore possibilities of moving a privilege motion in the next session of the Assembly or filing a defamation suit against" Tata.
The party also passed a resolution describing party chief Mamata Banerjee's protest for farmers at Singur as "an example to the country".
A decision to hold a Jan Jagran Abhijan (mass awareness campaign) in support of Trinamool's movement against the West Bengal government's "atrocities" on poor farmers was also taken at the meet. The week-long campaign is to begin at Singur from Wednesday.
