Google’s lab team is reportedly working on creating Chatbots that can have personalities based on celebrities or influencers, or customised by the users.
As per a 9To5Google report, Google intends to use its Gemini large language models to create celebrity chatbots, including potential collaborations with influencers and renowned celebs. However, it is still unclear with which celebs the tech giant is planning to partner with.
Additionally, the tech giant is also working on a feature that will let users create their own chatbots simply by describing their personalities and appearance, which is something similar to Character.ai. The project is likely to make its debut later this year.
The chatbots may be incorporated into YouTube. They intend to employ a mobile-friendly interface via a Progressive Web App (PWA) rather than connecting directly with Google Messages or Chat.
This effort is different from Gems, which Google introduced at the I/O 2024 last month. Gems are the customised version of Gemini for specific needs like a Yoga instructor, maths tutor or recipe guru.
Mark Zuckerberg-owned Meta also introduced a similar feature for the users last year which allows the users to talk to prominent celebs like Paris Hilton, Snoop Dog, Mr Beast, Charli D’Amelio and Dwayne Wade among others. However, these chatbots just assume the personalities of fictitious characters rather than being based on the celebrity's real life.
Character.ai is another startup, that allows users to create their personalised chatbots simply by describing their traits and personalities. On Character.ai users can engage with fictional characters like Sherlock Holmes, Iron Man aka Tony Stark, Batman and also Elon Musk.
Also, the portal provides specialised bots for jobs like narrative development, relationship advice and more. Notably, Character.ai uses Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) and Google Cloud services to train its AI models.
