The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has launched a new smartphone app called 'MySpeed (TRAI)' that allows users to measure real-time speed of their mobile internet.

The free app, currently available for Android, captures and sends coverage, data speed, and other network information along with device and location of the tests. The data is then sent to TRAI.

TRAI, however, clarifies that none of the data acquired is personal in nature and all the results are reported anonymously.

It further goes on to explain that while the MySpeed app does send details of the data experience to TRAI, the report does not constitute a complaint. If there is a poor experience, users are requested to register a complaint with the respective network service providers.

The app can test speeds of both WiFi and cellular connections. The idea behind the app is to help consumers and network providers a database of the quality of signals and internet speed.

What's your reaction?
