Use of proper punctuation while texting may make you seem like a jerk: Study
According to the study by Binghamton University, if a person uses proper punctuation when texting it comes across as kind of rude.

New Delhi: If you prefer keeping your text responses grammatically correct and absolutely do not refrain from using the period at the end of a statement then you probably should put a full stop to that because according to a new study, you might come across as a plain jerk.

According to the study by Binghamton University, if a person uses proper punctuation when texting it comes across as kind of rude.

CMC or Computer Mediated Communication which includes email, texting, instant messages, etc. lacks any kind of context clues of face to face communication methods. Therefore, in order to analyse the impact of period in terms of CMC, the researchers had a small group of undergrads rate conversations that were either handwritten notes or text messages.

It was found that despite the social and contextual clues were missing, the sincerity of the short messages was evaluated differently based on the use of period. When a period was present in a short exchange, the participants rated the conversation as much less sincere, Engadget notes.

In a separate study, it was found that using an exclamation is more sincere than not using any punctuation to end a sentence in digital communication.

So the next time you act all grammar Nazi while texting and don't receive any reply, you know what might have gone wrong.

What's your reaction?
