Kim Jong Un has made it to the headlines for the luxurious addition to his fleet. A black Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 was spotted making its way out of his garage despite the United Nations sanctions on the import of luxury goods to the country. Seoul-based Yonhap news agency has released the pictures where the North Korean leader was seen standing near a black Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 on August 9.

As per reports, Kim Jong Un had used the special train to visit flood-hit areas of Uiju County in North Phyongan where the latest model of Mercedes-Benz SUV was captured. The supreme North Korean leader was seen addressing the public from the fleet standing next to the Mercedes Maybach GLS 600. Going by sources, the luxury SUV is assumed to be the top-class model launched in South Korea in April. Its price tag starts at $175,500 and can go up to $227,400 ( ₹1.9 crore approximately).

Under UN resolutions, first enacted in 2006 after Pyongyang carried out underground nuclear tests, North Korea is banned from procuring luxury goods, including automobiles.

Despite this, the 40-year-old politician has a fleet of luxury cars at his disposal. His collection includes a Rolls Royce Phantom, Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard, fifth-generation US-made Cadillac Escalade, and a Lexus armoured vehicle, among others.

Kim Jong Un, known for his love for Mercedes-Benz, has made several public appearances in different Mercedes-Maybach S-class vehicles, including a limousine over the years. Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin were seen driving around the North Korean capital in a Russian-made Aurus limousine in June when Putin made a rare overseas trip to Pyongyang since the launch of the Ukraine invasion in 2022.

Further, Al Jazeera, in its report mentioned that the North Korean leader took his first ride in the luxury car that was gifted to him by Russian President Vladimir Putin in March this year. Moreover, Russia and China, North Korea’s oldest ally, have repeatedly blocked attempts to impose new UN sanctions on North Korea over its banned ballistic missile tests.
