Living in a metropolitan city is costly, and somewhere we are all aware of it. When you’re staying away from home and working in metro cities, a huge part of your salary goes as rent. Mumbai especially, the financial capital of India, is among the most expensive cities in the country, making it difficult to survive on a limited budget.
Recently, a Mumbai-based lawyer shared a post reflecting on the high real estate prices in Mumbai. She pointed out that a single bedroom-hall-kitchen (1 BHK) flat will cost around Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000 in the commercial capital of India and advised the other users to stay with their families only.
“1 Bhk 50-70 hazar ka mil raha hai Mumbai mein maa baap se bana ke rakho bhai koi zarurat nahi hai independent hone ke liye ghar se bhaagne ki (One can get 1 BHK for ₹ 50-70,00 in Mumbai. Be on good terms with your mom and dad, no need to rush out of your house to be independent),” she wrote on X.

Soon after the lawyer shared the post, it sparked a discussion on the micro-blogging site. Several users gave suggestions for a budgeted stay in Mumbai.
An X user wrote, “Andheri goregaon tak aao Budget me mil jaega, bandra me nahi. Ya 2 bhk kisi ke sath share karo Bht savings hogi (Come to Andheri or Goregaon you will find a flat in budget here, not in Bandra. Or share a 2-BHK flat with someone).”
Another comment read, “Have paid 85k for 2bhk in the past, now paying 48k for 2bhk. Just try to change the locality if you can.”
However, this comment took the cake. “1 bhk 30 hazar me bhi mil jayega bas issue ye hai raat ko kisi ke gana gane ki awaz aati hai… contact for more enquiries. (You can get 1 BHK flat for Rs 30,000, but there’s an issue, at night there is a sound of someone singing… Contact for more inquiries),” the remark read.
One of the users shared leaving Mumbai due to its high rent. “Maine isi liye mumbai chod diya”
Some users compared Mumbai’s real estate price to Delhi and wrote, “Come to Delhi and pay only 9-10k (2BHK, furnished”
“True, inflation is outpacing salaries at a very fast speed. Getting a house, good healthcare & quality education without a big burden of loan seems like an impossible dream to many,” a user wrote.
The post has gathered around 1.5 lakh views on X and the numbers are gradually increasing.
As per the recent Anarock data, Mumbai had a rental yield of 4.15 percent in Q1 2024 as against 3.5 percent back in 2019 – a 19% growth.
