A recent viral video on social media has captured the public’s attention, showing a house being swallowed by the ocean. The video, shared by Jason Hornung, depicts a house collapsing bizarrely on the North Carolina coast in the US, eventually floating halfway into the sea. This house marks the seventh seaside residence along the coast to succumb to the tide in the past four years. The video has sparked widespread debate on social media, with many people arguing this incident could have been prevented.
In the viral clip posted on Instagram, onlookers were screaming as the sea takes its toll. Within minutes, the structure underneath the house was destroyed. Half of the first storey of the house sank into the sea, leaving it floating there.
According to reports, no one was in the house during the collapse and all onlookers were safe after the incident.
The video has garnered around 1.7 million views. Under the viral video, people rushed in to give their opinions on the power of the ocean, with some saying that the person behind the camera has a front-row seat to climate change. A user has questioned the man behind the camera about why he did not save the house instead of filming. Many have questioned why would anyone build a house so close to the coast.
Another user commented by questioning there is a reason this house was not proactively moved or razed. While answering this question, Jason mentioned that it was condemned only 3 days before.
The second part of the video has also been shared on Instagram which showcases the structure moving further into the ocean, leaving a trail of debris and rubble where it previously stood. Each time a new wave hits, the house is slowly hauled even further into the ocean.
