A Bengaluru man was harassed by police after they took over his phone and read his personal chats. Here is what happened.

A Bengaluru man was allegedly harassed by policemen and forced to bribe them. Taking to Reddit, an anonymous user shared a scary incident that his friend had to go through. The person shared that a friend of his is new to Bengaluru and went house hunting near Ejipura area. A few police officers somehow got hold of him and took away his phone. They asked him to open it and went through all his chats. “When they found the word “weed” mentioned, they scared him by saying that they needed to take him for a medical check-up,” he wrote.

The person put forward that his friend does not smoke weed and did not even have any such photos of weed. It was just the word which was mentioned in one of the chats. He said they found nothing else after searching for over 30 mins.

“As they were taking him away, they refused to give him his phone so that he could call someone. Apparently, on the way, they demanded 500 rupees to let him go or to file an FIR. He panicked and gave them the money,” the post further read.

This incident came as a shock to the person. He does not remember any of the police officers names. Therefore, taking an action is tough. The person further sought advice for his friend.

Since being uploaded, the post has gone viral and gathered multiple responses. “Koramangala and surrounding areas have some of the worst police officers on beat. The amount of harassment we hear about is sick,” commented a Reddit user. Another person wrote, “Oh this is very common, many of my friends were caught and had to pay a hefty sum Upto 25k especially in Madiwala or Koramangala side. It is a sad and pathetic thing.. they are targeting young working folks and students.. it’s awful, a twitter post was there addressed by Bangalore police head that in no way anyone can check your phone without proper legal notice. So be safe guys, fear is their fodder!”
