New Delhi: Kingfisher Airlines Chairman Vijay Mallya wants the government to allow foreign airlines have stake in domestic carriers.
Mallya on Monday said that a large number of global carriers had sent inquiries to take a minority stake in Kingfisher Airlines.
"One of the many recommendations made to the government is that they should consider allowing foreign airlines strategic investors to make upto 25 per cent investment in Indian carriers because they will value Indian carriers much better and in a more fair manner than a pure equity investor," Mallya said.
However, government does not allow foreign airlines to hold a stake in domestic airlines.
Mallya wants the government to allow up to 25 per cent foreign holding in domestic airlines by changing the existing aviation policy.
The government has on several occasions ruled out such move.
Mallya also paid up part of his dues to the Airports Authority of India to clear a due of over Rs 286 crore.
