HYDERABAD: Officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) are in for trouble. The AntiCorruption Bureau (ACB), which was asked by the High Court to probe illegal constructions in Hyderabad, has detected at least 75 buildings which are either completely unauthorised or have deviated from the approved plans. The watchdog agency will be submitting its report on its findings to the High Court this week. Sources disclosed to Express that after the High Court directed the ACB in the first week of September to conduct an indepth probe, bureau sleuths, along with municipal officials, inspected more than 200 highrise buildings. The ACB carried out checks of several ground + 5 floor structures, including commercial complexes, which came up in the last five years. It is learnt that some builders, who had permissions only for G + 2 floors managed to construct another floor by making certain deviations.
It found that several buildings were constructed without municipal permission and some others were built with deviation from plans. The sleuths found such discrepancies with regard to at least 75 structures.According to the sources, the ACB, in its report to the court, is likely to mention that some GHMC officials were handinglove with builders and looked the other way though the violations were quite glaring in some cases. The report is likely to mention that the erring officials may have received hefty bribes for being blind to the violations.
