Daylight robbery shocks Aluva

An amount of Rs 11,45,000 was taken away from a locked car parked in front of the Sub-Registrar’s office here on Wednesday.

The police said that the robbery took place in the 10-minute gap between 11.25 am and 11.35 am, when the two parties, who entered into a land deal, left the car to the registrar’s office for signing the document after counting and confirming the money. The robber, who might have been watching them keeping the money in a bundle on the backseat of the car, broke the backside glass, grabbed the money and ran away, the police said.

The money belonged to Manakkad Veetil Ashraf and Manakkad Veetil Kunjan Nair’s son Rajan Nair. It was the proceeds obtained from selling the property- two-and-a-half cents of land- that both held jointly to a person named Jacob, who belongs to Manjery.

Both Ashraf and Rajan are the natives of Vidakkuzha of Edathala panchayat near Kalmasserry.
