New Delhi: Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan on Monday denied having requested the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to issue guidelines to television channels for the coverage of daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai's delivery.
A document, purportedly from the Broadcast Editors' Association, was being circulated with guidelines for coverage of the birth of Abhishek and Aishwarya's first child.
Among others, the so-called guidelines said: (1) No pre-coverage of the event, (2) Story of birth of the baby to be run only after, and on basis of, official announcement, (3) Story not to run on breaking news band, (4) No camera or OB vans at hospital or any other location related to the story, (5) Go for photo-op or press conference if invited, (6) Not carry any MMS or photo of the child, (7) No astrology show to be done on this issue, (8) No 11.11.11 astro show to be done, (9) The duration of story to be around a minute/ninety seconds, (10) Unauthorised entry into hospital not permitted.
On being asked by a journalist to confirm if he had asked for restrictions to be imposed on the coverage of the birth of the baby, Bachchan tweeted that it was "absolute rubbish!"
"I&B and media matter ! Firstly I have no such intention ever, secondly do you really think I&B would listen to me !?? No way baby! But more interesting stuff coming in on this topic! Apparently media has been told by I&B to not have OB Vans outside hospitals ! But wait ! Yesterday journalist from electronic, sent me sms, which indicated that this decision was from the electronic media. That news came to me via a journalist .. so someone putting two and two together and making it Bachchan ... Ha ha ha !!"
Rai, 38, is due to give birth to her first child in November.
