PUDUCHERRY: The casket containing the relic of Saint John Bosco will arrive in Puducherry on Wednesday.St John Bosco (known as Don Bosco) formed religious groups called ‘Salesians of Don Bosco’ and ‘Daughters of Mary Help of Christians’ (known as Salesian Sisters) to work for the welfare of young men and women.The relic of the holy hand of St John Bosco is on its journey to 131 countries, which started on January 31, 2009 on the occasion of the 150th year of the founding of the Salesian Society. This journey is also in preparation for the celebration of the 200th birth anniversary of Don Bosco which will be celebrated at his birth place Turin,Italy, in 2015.The casket will arrive at the Don Bosco Transit Home in Jeevanandapuram at 12 pm from Cuddalore and will be kept at Don Bosco Boys home at Thattanchavady till 2.15 pm. It will then leave for the Holy Spirit Church at Tagore Nagar and be there till 4.30 pm after which it will be taken to Puducherry Cathedral, where archbishop Dr Antony Anandarayar will grace the concelebrated High Mass.The casket would then leave for Sacred Heart Bascillica and would be kept there till 9 pm for public veneration before being taken back to Holy Spirit Church at Tagore Nagar. The relic casket, after thanksgiving mass at 3 am, would leave for Madurantakam at 4.30 am on Thursday (Nov 10).The relic of Don Bosco was recomposed from the urn that contained his remains since 1929 when the body was exhumed for his beatification on Easter Sunday (April 1, 1934) by then Pope Pius IX. The bones and tissues of the right hand and arm were taken and placed within a wax replica of St John Bosco’s body.
