COIMBATORE: An engineering student allegedly committed suicide here on Wednesday as her father was planning to go abroad for work against her request to stay back. According to police sources, S Amirthavalli, 22, was a third year student of Hindusthan College of Engineering and Technology in Malumichampatty. Her father D Selvarj, 55, of Bharathi Nagar in Ganapathy here was planning to go to Dubai on Thursday. He was working in Dubai for the last 25 years as fitter. He came here on leave in October and stayed with his family. Amirthavalli requested her father not to go to Dubai, as he had worked there for over 25 years away from the family. However, he refused her request promising that he would stay back next time. She was reportedly frustrated over the issue. On Thursday morning, Selvaraj went to a shop along with his wife. When he returned home around 10.45 a.m., he found Amirthavalli hanging in the house. Based on a complaint from Selvaraj, Saravanampatty police registered a case and are investigating.
