New Delhi: Top seed Roger Federer sailed into the last four by beating Chile's Fernando Gonzalez. Federer took his time to warm up in the first set and lost it 2-6 to the 24th seed but like it has become a pattern with the Fed Ex he came back in the second set to show just why Nadal needs to start worrying this year. The World number one then went on to win the match 2-6 6-2 6-3 6-4.
13th seed Dinara Safina beat fellow Russian Elena Dementieva in their quarter-final match. Safina gave an encore of her match against Maria Sharapova and fought back from 5-2 down in the second set to take it to the tie breaker and clinch it 7-5.
She then closed the match with ease in the third set and won 4-6, 7-6, 6-0. Safina will play her semi final match against fellow Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, who beat Kaia Kanepi 7-5, 6-2 in the the other quarter-final on Wednesday.
