BANGALORE: On Friday, many home guards were made to stand in rain for more than one hour till the arrival of the chief guest. Home and Transport Minister R Ashok, who was supposed to inaugurate the ‘All India Home Guards Day-2011’ decided to give a miss to the event. The home guards both men and women in their uniform were waiting from 5 pm for the arrival of the guests. They were made to wait for more than one and a half hours. As both Ashok and P Hemalatha, director, Department of Horticulture, failed to turn up, the organisers left with no option except to start the programme. The Home Guards Department had organised the function here at the Indira Gandhi Musical Fountain Park on Friday.  A women guard, on condition of anonymity said, “We serve the society at all times without giving importance to rain or sun. But how can we be made to stand in rain for hours ? It is not fair on their  part to insult us like this.”
