CHENNAI: The crackdown on DMK senior leaders continued as the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Thursday raided 12 properties belonging to former Labour Minister T M Anbarasan, his relatives and a friend in Chennai and Kancheepuram and seized incriminating papers.The raids were conducted based on information that Anbarasan, while holding the post of Labour Minister, had accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.The swoop came two days after a similar raid on 20 properties of former education minister K Ponmudy and his kin on Tuesday.“He (Anbarasan) accumulated assets of more than `1 crore disproportionate to his income in the past five years. We have seized various documents,” a senior officer said.Special teams raided the homes of Anbarasan, brother T M Ezhilarasan alias Chinna Babu, three younger sisters Thenmozhi, Kanimozhi and Kanmani, and two brothers-in-law Thirunavukarasu and Sivashanmugam at Kundrathur, Sriperumbudur.Anbarasan’s daughter Lavanya’s residence at Mamallan Nagar in Kancheepuram and the houses of his friend S V Ravichandran at Perungudi and relative M Palani at Ramapuram were also searched. Details of the raids on two other properties could not be confirmed.“Including Anbarasan, we have raided the properties of three former ministers, and seized incriminating documents from the houses of Ponmudy and Nehru. We are investigating all the documents,” the officer said.
