PUDUCHERRY: A new feeder bifurcating the Raj Nivas feeder is being laid from Marapalam 110 KVA Substation to Muthialpet area and enhancement of transformers is being taken by the electricity department to address the problems of frequent power disruption and to ensure uninterrupted supply. Stating this at an open-house interaction with consumers under Town-II jurisdiction on Friday, R Murali, executive engineer -I, electricity department, said the Raj Nivas feeder and transformers were unable to bear the current load due to increased consumption. Installation of an additional feeder had been taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 45 lakh. Lines having been laid up to Uppalam. However, the work from Uppalam to Muthialpet would be taken up once the clearance from Railways (Trichy Division) is obtained. The work is expected to be completed in another three months, Murali said. Two transformers at Muthialpet were being enhanced to 345 KVA and 500 KVA capacities respectively at a cost of Rs 103.61 crore. Another LT cable is being replaced from Rozario Street to Ponnabalam Mudaliar Street, Muthialpet, at a cost of Rs 4.69 lakh.“A new scheme to erect three transformers would be formulated after studying areas where the drawing of loads is more,” said assistant engineer N Karunakaran.
