CHENNAI: The Sarvatra Sailing Expedition, one of the longest sailing expeditions on a state-of-the-art catamaran, began from the Chennai coast on Sunday. This adventure effort by a team from the defence services was flagged off by Major General Subroto Mitra, General Officer Commanding - AP, TN, KA and KL. As reported by City Express, they set off on a Hobie-16, the fastest beach launching catamaran in the country. The catamaran is manned by two people and propelled by wind. The Artillery Centre — Hyderabad has organised  the expedition, the participants of which will sail approximately 100 km every day before getting to shore. The team will sail through various ports on the country’s east coast till they dock at Gopalapuram in Odisha.Though there is some search and rescue cover for the expedition, no motor boat will follow them through the trip.
