NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday said it would examine a batch of pending PILs that question the ongoing separate Telangana agitation in the state and see whether they can be clubbed together for a decision.
A Bench comprising Justice GS Singhvi and Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai asked the petitioner, advocate PV Krishnaiah, to furnish details of all three PILs he filed on the issue. Krishnaiah has pleaded with the apex court to restrain the Centre from carving out a separate state and also sought appropriate direction to authorities concerned to ensure that the general public is not put to any inconvenience because of the agitation.According to Krishnaiah, not only has normal life paralysed in the state, but all courts except the AP High Court, are not functioning properly. He painted a picture of the stir which has seen government employees boycott work, rail and rasta rokos and disruption of work at Singareni Collieries Limited in Ramagundam and Godavarikhani in Karimnagar district. These, he said have caused enormous losses to the state's exchequer and the government has had to spend more than `750 crore to buy power for the state which is facing a power supply shortage due to the stir. The government has had to impose power cuts not only in Hyderabad but also in other districts, with even the farmers getting affected. Moreover, the government intends to collect additional taxes from consumers by way of surcharge to mop up the losses.

All this is in violation of the fundamental rights of citizens. The state government employees and its instrumentalities have no right whatsoever to give call for a strike, much less for the state of Telangana, as it is not related to their service conditions, Krishnaiah felt.
