State to streamline medical PG admissions
State to streamline medical PG admissions

The state government is all set to modify and bring out a new prospectus for streamlining the medical PG course admission procedure, against the backdrop of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by the National Board of Examinations. As 50 per cent of the seats will be filled by the state, the reservation and other policies of the state will be incorporated in the admission procedures.

The counselling and admission will be conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations.

“The National Board of Examinations will give the raw score of NEET. The admission and counselling will be conducted by the state based on the new procedure.

The prospectus will be prepared by the Director of Medical Education (DME) and the Commissioner of Entrance Examination will conduct the admission procedures as per the guidelines laid down by the DME,” said health secretary Rajeev Sadanandan.

Regarding the confusion in the online registration for PG admissions, he said that the procedure will be streamlined soon.

The government has sought more slots for those who were not able to register. Regarding the options for those who have registered in far-off centres, the Minister said that he will have to look closely at it.

“The process will be streamlined soon just as in the case of CAT,” he said.

The candidates had complained that they were unable to register online after sitting for hours before the computer and most of them could not get the desired centres in the state or anywhere nearby.

More slots for UG course

The flaws noticed for online registration for NEET PG, which is first of its kind, can be rectified for the UG medical entrance registration.

The CBSE is conducting the examination and more centres and slots will be sought as the number of candidates would be more, said Dr V Geetha, Director of Medical Education.
