CHENNAI: Nearly 500 volunteers got together on Saturday evening to clean the Marina seashore stretching from the Gandhi statue to the Avvaiyar Statue. They  also succeeded in creating an awareness among the public to stop littering.The Beach Clean Up Drive is one of the activities of Isha Homes under its Isha Homes Vision Chennai 2020 initiative, to encourage the youth in Chennai to start thinking of the most practical methods of managing ‘Littering and Segregation’ for the city.Suresh Krishn, MD, Isha Homes, said, “As the government and other independent bodies continue planning, we thought youth could be given an opportunity to be a small part of this entire process as they could inject a fresh new perspective to this whole exercise.”Mayor Saidai S Duraisamy flagged off the drive and initiated a signature campaign too. Volunteers were trained for a brief period on waste materials, degradable, non-degradable and recyclable waste before beginning the activity.Signboards with slogans like ‘Can you make a difference?’ were put up at several places along the beach.Actor Vivekh and Rtr PPK Manikandan, District Rotaract Representative were also present and joined in the signature campaign.
