New Delhi: Following serial blasts in Assam, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) on Monday lashed out against Congress-led UPA Government, criticising it yet again for being weak against terror.
”This is yet another example which showcases that the Government is clueless on terror,” BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said.
Pinning the blame for terror strikes on lack of strong anti-terror laws, BJP has been demanding that Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) be brought back, but Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil maintains Prevention of Unlawful Activities Act was enough to deal with terror.
Meanwhile, Union Home Ministry has sought an immediate report on the serial blasts from the Assam government.
Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta, who is closely monitoring the situation, spoke to Assam Chief Secretary to find out the details of the incidents, a Home Ministry spokesman said.
Gupta has sought a detailed report from the state government on the blasts in several districts including Barpeta, Bongaigaon and Kokrajhar.
The ministry is keeping a constant watch on the situation, he said.
Eleven blasts rocked several districts of Assam, killing many people. The powerful bombs went off simultaneously shortly before noon.
