Lockjaw is a condition that causes the lower jaw to get stuck in an open or closed position.

Taking a big yawn and then being unable to close your mouth sounds like the stuff of nightmares, but recently a US influencer experienced something like in real life. Jenna Sinatra from New Jersey got her jaw stuck open and had to go to the hospital to get it fixed. Lockjaw is a condition that causes the lower jaw to get stuck in an open or closed position. Jenna documented her ordeal on her phone camera. In her video, she is unable to speak properly as her mouth stays open. When she is escorted to take an x-ray, one hospital staff member says, “I have seen this before”.

After several tests, the doctors gave her muscle relaxants and put her jaw back in place. After getting her jaw fixed, her jaw and head are wrapped, with what appears to be a compression bandage.

With prompt treatment, Jenna overcame her lockjaw. The 21-year-old remained positive throughout the process and now her lockjaw videos are going viral.

In the comments, many people shared their experience with Lockjaw. An Instagram user wrote, “Happened to me twice a few years ago in the middle of the night when I yawned. Had to wake my dentist up and he pushed my bottom jaw down and “popped” it back in the socket. Now I’m scared to yawn all the way and don’t get the satisfaction of a good yawn anymore sorry you had to go through that!”

Another person wrote, “As someone who’s lived with severe lockjaw since middle school. This in fact does happen and hurts, I’ve been to physical therapy for years off and on.”

Lockjaw is caused by the dislocation of the jaw. It is common in people who have temporomandibular joint dysfunction or TMJ. One should never use force on a locked jaw and seek professional help.

Someone who claimed to have TMJ shared their experience with jaw locking and wrote, “I’m not a doctor, but I do have TMJ. Once I fell asleep in a movie theater, and my jaw got locked. I woke up and it stayed that way for days. A really really good chiropractor is the only thing that helped me.”

Amongst the comments, many people praised Jenna for staying calm throughout. An Instagram user wrote, “What a cool and calm young lady. I’d be freaking out!”
